Resilience. Shot this image of three trees, there is one behind the front one, growing straight out of a rock formation.  This was from a day trip my wife and I took to Rocky Mountain National Park in March of 2012.It really is amazing to see these trees growing out of what looks like no dirt, you can see the root of the front tree spreading across the ground.  Considering the high winds that I get at my house, I imagine this spot can get some extreme wind.  It is a testament that they are even still standing. Lightning Bolt. I shot this tree last year in Alaska, way up river on a river known as “rainbow”, it has an unpronounceable name to the locals.  This was the first time in probably 10 or 15 years that we had been up this river.  The fishing was good, we caught some nice sized trout, but there were some slow periods where I would jump out in to the tall grass on the banks and do some shooting. This tree caught my eye, with it’s distinct shape and bone white portions. I really wanted to have the lightning bolt branch stand out, so knowing that I would turn the sky black, I focused on it and recomposed to have the main trunk be a little out of the DoF.  To have the darker main trunk stand out, I positioned it so that the cloud was behind it.  Over all I think it added some dimension to the image.
